This multidisciplinary approach to learning encourages students to sample different fields and employ critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Finally, students will then shift to take a focused look at the United Nations – how and why it was created and its role in today’s world. Students will then shift to explore how the law impacts, and is impacted by, every facet of our lives, giving special consideration to some of the biggest civil rights issues of our time. Using the lenses of the press, the law and the United Nations, students will examine different tools for making sense of and making an impact on the world around them – considering the strengths and the challenges of each. Students will consider the role of journalists through the reporting of stories from one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world and connecting the local to the global.
